Here's the stuff I've been reading, playing, or watching with intent for review.

Video games are the hardest to review. They take the most time and effort to finish and when a game sucks it's so easy to give up. Here's what I will definitely finish:

Bob Came in Pieces
Shadowgrounds
Altitude
Flat Out 2 (PC)
Mount & Blade

Books are a bit easier; as long as they are interesting I can keep going. I'm no writing expert, but I know what makes novels entertaining.

Natural Selection, by Michael A. Stackpole
Assumption of Risk, same author

Movies are the easiest. Even if they outright suck they take no effort to watch and there's always a way to make them enjoyable (hint: watch them with friends!).

The Happening
Step Brothers

I'm wrapping up a few reviews right now. Mount & Blade will definitely take a long time as there's so much to cover, everything else though shouldn't be too bad.

I Miss the Graphics of Yesterday's Games PDF Print E-mail

Before you ask, no I’m not feeling nostalgic right now! I am not referring to the 8-bit graphics of Castlevania. The look of early 3D video games through the early 2000s is what I am referring to. Modern games have reached a point to where they look like forged photographs. As we near perfection the little things start to bother us, the simple things that make the shot look canny. This ultimately kills the immersion. In the past everything required a stretch of imagination. We could pick apart the large pixels and polygons and imagine what was really there in far greater detail.

News - Monthly Site Update
Monday, 01 March 2010 23:10
March is finally here and for me it realty does feel like a new month. I was pretty sick and down throughout February so I didn’t get much done. I’m feeling better and I’m working to get my stress levels under control. The inspiration is starting to return and I can finally get some articles done!

This month I really just want to focus on getting new content up. I’ll get to the technical stuff when I get to it. It’s frustrating working on the site itself because I don’t know what I’m doing. There are no major issues right now and what’s on here works fine so I’m in no rush to implement new features at the moment.

Yes I have been watching the polls and gaming articles is my focus at the moment. I still want to write book reviews though, as I started reading novels again. You’ll also be seeing reviews from me that cover games by low profile independent game developers as I mentioned before, it just takes me a while to finish these games with everything else I have going on. I really want to help these smaller developers get the coverage they deserve, or don’t deserve if the games do end up sucking. I’m doing more PC gaming these days so indy games are easier than ever to find.

Lastly I should mention that site activity has really picked up in the month of February, in fact it’s been consistently picking up in the past several months. I feel grateful for the attention and hope things continue to improve. Of course this is all great motivation to keep writing new articles. Things are really looking up, and I hope I can bring more good news in the future.

I've been feeling under the weather... PDF Print E-mail

Hey guys. I've been slow to put up articles lately because of my poor health. Now I've been pretty sick throughout February, but lately instead of being sick a new health issue has arisen. I feel I am beginning to get over it but I am still left with little energy. Despite this I've still been working on articles, but staying on the PC for more than an hour is a real drain. I hope by next weak I can have the articles posted up on this site.

I've decided to check out the Steam digital download service and I may post my evaluation. I can still game for short periods of time, but I noticed my performance has been hindered. Regardless I have decided to review some not so mainstream games and ones developed by independent studios. I've always stood for the little guy, now it's time I do that for the gaming industry. Luckily the Steam network makes finding indie games a lot easier, and a lot cheaper haha.

When my health comes around I hope I can finally get another one of my short stories up. My short stories lately have been either science fiction or black comedies, while my flash fiction has been straight up thrillers. It'll been nice to get a few stories off the "work in progress" list. Of course stress has always been my biggest inspiration killer when it comes to fiction. Lately it hasn't been too bad and I've actually been working on my stories, that's why it's so frustrating to be feeling like I do now!

Now if you'll excuse me I need to take some aspirin as writing this has made my eyes kill.

Top 5 Best and Worse Multiplayer Gaming Clichés PDF Print E-mail

I spend most of my online gaming time on First Person Shooters, but most of these clichés should be multi-genre. We all know games take cues from other successful games. Eventually these cues become clichés. Some we grow to love, others we grow to hate. Here’s what I think are the best and worst clichés for multiplayer games.

Blood of Kerensky Vol. 1, 2, and 3 PDF Print E-mail
Articles - Book Reviews

by Michael A. Stackpole

I am a huge fan of Stackpole’s X-Wing series, so I was a little more than disappointed when I could not even finish the first book in his Warrior Trilogy, Stackpole’s first entry into the Battletech franchise. Stackpole’s earlier works are just not as exciting I guess. Years later I am once again reading classic Battletech and many fans suggested that I start from the Blood of Kerensky trilogy. After reading just a few excerpts I was sucked in.
