| Why did I create this site? |

This is a question I never get asked. When I mention I have a website they already assume I have one just to put things up on it. So they ask “Oh, what’s on it?”. With all the great sites out there for posting projects and various work where all can easily find it a separate website is not necessary to host projects and information. The creation of a website can be time consuming and expensive, which is why most people do not bother.
So why do I have a website then? Well for one thing not having to deal with file uploading sites is awesome! That and I am trying to get a name for myself as a writer and musician. Blogs and social networking sites have a lot of limitations and do not have the professional appeal people claim them to have. Song upload sites provide a nice start but no cheap way of promotion. Message boards are great for showing off new projects but you need to belong to many different ones to get the right audience but still most people tend to skim read.
To really be able to focus on what I am and what I do I need a separate domain. A personal website is the only place where I can express myself without any boundaries or limitations (until money is factored in). I can have a centralized location for all my projects regardless of the topic. In conclusion the next time someone mentions they have a website, ask them why they have it, not just what is on it. |
