“It starts off mildly amusing, then quickly turns into a disaster fueled by quirky physics and downright awful control." Overall Score: 2 Playable Audio: Music is ok, but becomes monotonous fast. Not really a whole lot of sounds to judge and no spoken dialogue. Graphics: They lack the artistic nature you would expect from an indie title and absolutely fail to justify the stuttering frame rates on low-end machines. Control: The absolute low point for this game. Part of the challenge in this game is maintaining control of your ship, this is fun how? Story/Plot: It’s is nothing you’ll care to remember. Dialogue from the protagonist between levels is horribly contrived. Depth: The twelve levels should take around 5-7 hours to complete. More time may be needed to unlock all of the parts, but it is unlikely you will want to suffer through that task. I think I just got a glimpse of what it’s like to be a professional gamer; I picked up a random game and just trudged through it, dealing with every frustrating aspect it threw at me. The concept behind Bob Came in Pieces sounded solid; complete physics based puzzles by configuring your space ship in various ways. Sadly, the only thing this game got right was the ship configuration and even that leads to tons of frustration. It starts off mildly amusing, then quickly turns into a disaster fueled by quirky physics and downright awful control. The most notable demerit has got to be the fact that the puzzles are downright obvious. Your challenge is dealing with the game’s atrocious physics, which in turn leads to the game’s horrid control. I would find myself frequently getting stuck on level geometry right after completing a puzzle. However, the biggest slap in the face is that the developers seem aware of issues like these, so much so that these issues are mentioned in the tutorial! So when I got stuck I could simply tap the space bar to respawn at the last checkpoint like the game directed me. This ends up remedying nothing as everything you do after reaching the checkpoint is reset! At one point I had to complete a simple yet time consuming puzzle five times because I would get stuck moving through a passage immediately after it. Going through the first half is incredibly easy, but the second half becomes downright painful after you have to start carrying objects across the levels. Again, the game’s physics make something as simple as moving a brick insanely hard and frustrating. Incentives for replying levels are to improve your times and unlock useless parts for your ship. Considering how frustrating the first go around was I can’t think of a reason why I would want to replay any of these levels. The game has a plot, but it isn’t even worth noting. For a PC game geared towards casual gamers Bob Came in Pieces packs the intensity of a mainstream competitive game, and I mean that in the worst possible way. With a retail value of almost $10 USD it absolutely fails to justify the cost, especially with its ugly low budget graphics. You can find a much better puzzle game on the casual market for less than half that cost.
